Apple Scab Alert
Apple Scab lives within diseased leaves that fall on the ground now, and will survive over the cold winter days affecting your trees again in the spring. This common disease will attack both Apples and Crabapples, leaves and fruit.
Trees infected with Apple Scab may experience early leaf drop if the fungus attacks early in the growing season. The best course is to apply a fungicide in early May just prior to the first bloom, then follow up with a second application in early June. Good horticultural practices, such as proper tree placement, and annual pruning for air circulation will help the chemical controls. Remove every single leaf that drops on the ground in the fall. When you decide to plant a new Apple or Crabapple tree, choose a disease resistant variety.
At GLC we can evaluate your landscape through monitoring, use proper cultural practices, identify and assess potential hazards and treat problems with practical solutions.
